BALDWIN HOUSE, Glenora — The government has declared a state of emergency for Glenora and Palma in response to a significant water main break in the region. The 42-inch American-operated main, which functions as the canton of Glenora’s primary source of potable water and lasted only half of its estimated 100-year lifespan, ruptured at approximately 1:30am EST after a leak had been detected on May 9 by the local water authority. The main also supplies a portion of the water to Palma, the northern portion of which reported little to no water pressure immediately following the break.

Residents in both cantons are being asked to conserve as much water as possible, avoid running water-intensive utilities (such as washing machines, dishwashers, and outdoor irrigation systems), and limit usage to essential hydration and hygiene until further notice. Water should not be consumed unless it has been boiled for at least one minute.

The state of emergency has been lifted as of 2pm on May 13. The boil water advisory remains in place until further notice.
